PRESS RELEASE – March 10, 2020

Fluvanna County High School is pleased to announce the availability of the Paul W. Bragg Scholarship Fund application. Established by Mr. Bragg’s will, and managed by the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, the scholarship is meant “to provide undergraduate college assistance based on both need and merit to graduates of Fluvanna County High School.” The Paul W. Bragg Scholarship Fund Advisory Committee was formed to develop the eligibility rules, to develop the number of scholarships to be awarded in a given year and the amounts, to develop the application and submission procedures including deadlines, and to develop a brochure to publicize this scholarship fund.

PRESS RELEASE – October 30, 2019

Fluvanna placed Second in team results for Gruesome Playground Injuries. Best Actor/Actress Awards were given to Aiden Higginbotham “Doug” and Hollyn Pleasants “Kayleen.” The judges’ ranks were as tightly grouped as any theatre competition hosted in a number of years. Directors received scoring packets with the ranks/scores and their individual judges critiques.

Mr. Craig Edgerton serves as the drama coach.

Fluvanna will now advance to the VHSL Region 3C Theatre Festival on November 16 at Heritage High School in Lynchburg.

PRESS RELEASE – October 22, 2019

Fluvanna County High School has earned the Blue Star School Award for 2019 for W!SE Financial Literacy. This is the sixth consecutive year that the High School has received this honor. The High School administered W!SE certification tests for the first time during the 2013-2014 school year. The school earned an 86 percent pass rate on the test, with 235 high school students earning the credential during the 2018-19 school year.

PRESS RELEASE – October 17, 2019

Applications are now available for the Summer Residential Governor’s School. Students must be in either 10th or 11th grade, and be gifted or an advanced student in one of the following areas: Foreign Language, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Humanities, Math, Science, Technology, Agriculture, Medicine, Space or Marine science. Each Summer Residential Governor’s School focuses on one special area of interest. Students live on a college or university campus for up to four weeks each summer. During this time, students are involved in classroom and laboratory work, field studies, research, individual and group projects and performances, and seminars with noted scholars, visiting artists, and other professionals. In the three mentorships, students are selected to work side-by-side with research scientists, physicians, and a variety of other professionals. A director and student-life staff provide supervision of students 24 hours a day, throughout the program.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released state-level, division-level, and school-level cohort reports that detail outcomes for students who entered the ninth grade for the first time in 2015 and were scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2019. Margo Bruce, Principal at Fluvanna County High School, announced today that FCHS senior, Claire Kent, has been named a Commended Student in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented to Claire.
