FLUVANNA COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL INTRODUCES NEW FOOTBALL COACH JOSHUA WALLACE

On February 9, 2018, Fluvanna County High School welcomed Joshua Wallace as its new football coach. Mr. Wallace comes to Fluvanna from Buckingham High School where he has served as the head football coach since 2016.
Fluvanna Holds Annual Scripps Spelling Bee

On January 25, 2018, the Fluvanna Middle School media center was buzzing with students spelling words such as clandestine and pestiferous. The events leading up to last night’s winning word started last fall when each grade held spelling competitions and advanced the top students in their grade to the Fluvanna County, Scripps Spelling Bee. The top two winners will move on to represent Fluvanna County in the Regional Scripps Spelling Bee, sponsored by The Daily Progress, to be held at Albemarle High School on March 3, 2018. The winner of the Spelling Bee at Albemarle High School will be invited to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC.
Students are Invited to Apply for Summer Residential Governor’s School

Applications are now available for the Summer Residential Governor’s School. Students must be in either 10th or 11th grade, be gifted or an advanced student in one of the following areas: Foreign Language, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Humanities, Math, Science, Technology, Agriculture, Medicine, Space or Marine science. Each Summer Residential Governor’s School focuses on one special area of interest. Students live on a college or university campus for up to four weeks each summer. During this time, students are involved in classroom and laboratory work, field studies, research, individual and group projects and performances, and seminars with noted scholars, visiting artists, and other professionals. In the three mentorships, students are selected to work side-by-side with research scientists, physicians, and a variety of other professionals. A director and student-life staff provide supervision of students 24 hours a day, throughout the program.
Thirty-Five Former and Current Fluvanna County High School Students Earn AP Scholar Awards for the 2016-17 School Year

Thirty-five Fluvanna County High School students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams during the 2016-2017 school year. This compares with 31 receiving the recognition in 2015-16 and 26 in 2014-15.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released state-level, division-level, and school-level cohort reports that detail outcomes for students who entered the ninth grade for the first time in 2013 and were scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2017. At the September 13 meeting of the Rotary Club of Fluvanna County, the club presented Carysbrook Elementary with a check in the amount of $6051.70. These funds will be used to provide equipment for the school’s Science Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Room.
Virginia Department of Education Releases School Accreditation Ratings All Fluvanna County Public Schools are Fully Accredited One of 65 School Divisions in the State

The Virginia Department of Education announced that 86 percent of Virginia’s public schools are rated as Fully Accredited for 2017-18. This compares with 81 percent for the 2016-17 school year.
Russell Jennings is Named Region V Teacher of the Year 2018

Fluvanna County Public Schools is pleased to announce Mr. Russell Jennings has been named the 2018 Region V Teacher of the Year. The Regional Teachers of the Year were selected from among candidates nominated by school divisions in each of the state’s eight superintendent’s regions. The candidates submitted portfolios highlighting their accomplishments, education philosophies and community activities.
